Overview
From concept to acquisition in just 18 months - this is the story of how Danubio partnered with dashCMA to bring a bold real estate tech idea to life.
In this case study, you’ll see how we built the product from the ground up, provided full-cycle technical leadership, and helped turn a founder’s vision into a successful exit.
The Vision
In 2018, a real estate entrepreneur approached Danubio with a bold vision: to build a modern, data-driven solution for one of the industry’s most critical — and outdated — tasks: home pricing.
Traditional CMA (Comparative Market Analysis) tools were outdated, time-consuming, and often left sellers confused. The idea was to create dashCMA, a sleek, interactive tool that could help real estate agents present pricing strategies in a clear, visual, and client-friendly format - all on a single screen.
To bring that vision to life, we set out to build a platform that would integrate real-estate data to generate smart pricing insights, let agents compare listings, trends, and valuation models at a glance, and provide both shareable, interactive reports and polished, professional PDFs — all wrapped in an intuitive experience that felt nothing like the old tools.
Market Context
The real estate technology (PropTech) market serving agents is both ripe with opportunity and challenging. Home pricing and CMA tools are essential for agents to win listings, yet many legacy solutions are outdated.
dashCMA’s niche was in providing a fast, visually compelling CMA platform that could replace clunky MLS (Multiple Listing Services) generated reports.
Its target users were real estate professionals (agents, teams, brokerages) looking for a competitive edge in pricing presentations.
By 2020, dashCMA’s potential was recognized by a major real estate software provider which acquired dashCMA to integrate into its platform. Learn more.
The Challenge
Building dashCMA was not a simple endeavor. Three key challenges stood out:
-
Fragmented MLS Data
-
In the US, real estate listing data comes from hundreds of regional MLSs, each with its own format, structure, and access rules.
-
There’s no standardized, affordable source for nationwide data — unless you're paying steep licensing fees to third-party aggregators. For an early-stage startup, this presented a major barrier: building nationwide coverage from raw MLS sources was technically complex, time-consuming, and cost-prohibitive.
-
Reaching time-to-market quickly would require a smarter approach - one that balanced affordability with meaningful data access, at least in an initial launch region.
-
-
Slow Tech Adoption in Real Estate
-
Real estate agents are not typically early adopters of new technology, especially when they already have MLS-provided CMA tools. Winning over users would require a solution that was not only better, but also easy to use and trust.
-
As an industry review noted, a top concern for dashCMA was the “adoption onramp” – many agents were comfortable with the status quo of MLS printouts
-
The team had to ensure the product’s value was immediately clear and that using it felt intuitive, or risk slow uptake. Additionally, the CMA software space was becoming crowded with competitors, so dashCMA needed to differentiate itself and prove its worth quickly to capture market share.
-
-
Need for Speed to Market
-
In a competitive PropTech landscape, time-to-market was crucial.
-
The founder’s vision was time-sensitive; to capitalize on a gap in the market (and stay ahead of potential competitors), dashCMA needed a MVP built fast – without compromising quality – to start gathering user feedback and validating the concept.
-
For a non-technical founder with no in-house engineering team, this meant finding a development partner who could execute rapidly and reliably.
-
The Solution
To tackle these challenges, dashCMA partnered with Danubio to provide end-to-end product development services and became the startup’s de facto engineering team and technical partner/advisor.
From initial architecture through post-launch support, the key aspects of our solution included:
-
MLS Data Integration
-
Recognizing that building direct integrations with raw MLS sources would delay the launch and blow through budget, we helped dashCMA take a more strategic route.
-
Rather than chasing national coverage out of the gate, we identified a regional data provider that offered standardized MLS data for California, wrapped in a single integration. This allowed us to bypass months of custom mapping work, avoid costly licensing from national aggregators, and focus on delivering actual value to users.
-
By starting with one high-demand region and a reliable data source, we kept the architecture clean, hit the market fast, and laid the groundwork for future expansion — all without compromising on the quality of the data experience.
-
-
Full-Cycle Rapid Product Development
-
Working in agile sprints, we were able to deliver a functional MVP of dashCMA in under six months. We handled development across the stack – front-end, back-end, and everything in between.
-
We worked closely with the founder to translate their vision into a robust web application. This included UI/UX design for a clean, “stage-ready” interface that agents would find friendly, as well as scalable server-side development to handle data processing and integrations.
-
Our team built the core dashCMA engine that pulls in property data, runs comparative market analysis logic, and outputs the interactive charts and reports that set dashCMA apart
-
We set up a cloud-based infrastructure to host the application, enabling the team to deploy updates quickly and scale the system as usage grew. Continuous integration and testing practices were adopted to maintain quality even under the tight timeline.
-
-
Monitoring, Support, and Iteration
-
Post-launch, we didn’t step back. We provided ongoing application monitoring to guarantee a smooth experience for agents using dashCMA in the field.
-
In addition, we offered technical support both to the founder and end-users: helping troubleshoot data issues, releasing improvements, and refining features based on real-world usage.
-
-
Technical Representation through Acquisition

When dashCMA’s success led to acquisition talks with Inside Real Estate in 2020, Danubio served as the startup’s trusted technical representative.
-
We participated in technical due diligence, demonstrating the product’s architecture and scalability. Our thorough documentation and transparent processes gave Inside Real Estate confidence in dashCMA’s codebase and reliability.
-
As ownership changed, we remained involved to transfer knowledge and ensure continuity.
-
Inside Real Estate recognized the value of our work and chose to retain us to continue evolving and scaling the platform post-acquisition. What began as a client-agency collaboration grew into a long-term partnership, with Danubio continuing to serve as a core part of the product’s future.
-
The Result
Danubio's comprehensive involvement yielded outstanding business outcomes for dashCMA:

-
Acquisition in ~18 Months
-
The ultimate validation of dashCMA’s success was its acquisition by Inside Real Estate in mid-2020. In just a year and a half from its founding, dashCMA had impressed a top industry player enough to be bought and rolled into a larger product suite.
-
Inside Real Estate, which serves hundreds of thousands of agents with its software, saw such value in dashCMA that it decided to make it part of its flagship offerings. The rapid acquisition timeline is a testament to how effectively we enabled dashCMA to scale and demonstrate value.
-
Key factors like the solid technical foundation, the quick user uptake, and the ability to integrate with a broader platform all contributed to this successful exit.
-
In the acquisition press release, dashCMA was touted as “real estate’s hottest new pricing tool,” and its data-driven capabilities were set to reach a national audience via Inside Real Estate’s 600+ MLS integrations.
-
